Why Does Lifting Others in Business Make a Leader?

It doesn't matter where you sit when you lead, if you lead with confidence, intention and direction.

Heavy on my mind lately has been knowing, watching and hearing about so many managers vs leaders in business.

Do you know what I’m talking about?

I have worked for plenty of managers and only a few leaders and that’s something that isn’t rare.

I’ve found there are a few types of managers, those who hover and micro manage, those who insist on doing all the work and complaining about the workload, those who take praise and pass blame, those who saddle up beside team members and ride either next to or on the same horse, those who don’t lift a finger but watch from their 10,000, 20,000 or 30,000 foot level.

And there are leaders, the ones who push from behind, sweep the road ahead, inspire progression, pass the praise and take the blame, invite curiosity, collaboration and creativity, who bring you to the table and offer you a place to sit, the ones who recognize the work, respect boundaries and encourage personal wellbeing.

I’ve been thinking about these differences for a while and seeing these qualities in the people that are in my innermost circle. The qualities of a leader are from where I want to learn, these are the qualities of which I want to lean on. These are the qualities of which I was raised.

So which of these qualities do you align? Which ones do you want to align but don’t yet? All you have to do is Begin to lead with authenticity. Engage your community, your team, your circle and find out where you can work. Navigate how to get there by getting an accountability partner to keep you in check. Develop yourself with a new perspective and lead from there.

Let me know how you taught yourself to B.E.N.D.!! ;) and maybe I will have led you to being a new kind of leader in your life!
