Saying Yes is The Hardest Thing Most Days

Getting comfortable with the uncomfortable by saying Yes

I’ve made it my mission to say yes to the hard things. Yes to trying something new. Yes to honoring my feelings over someone else’s. Yes to adventure—or even just saying yes to staying in.

Sometimes I say yes and then later wonder what I got myself into. But I show up anyway.

Saying no is easy. No leaves nothing to chance. No is a guarantee. But what if we turned more of those no’s into opportunistic yes’s?

Do you want to do that thing you’ve always been too scared to try? Yes, yes you do. Keep it legal, keep it safe, but keep it exciting, challenging, and worth telling a story about.

This year, I’m all about YES. It’s hard. It’s scary. But I’ve committed, so I do it. Will I fall? Probably. Fail? Maybe. But that’s part of the journey. Look at a toddler learning to walk—up, down, up, down—until one day, they’re steady.

Sometimes we don’t get back on the horse, but at least we got on in the first place.

I don’t regret the things I’ve tried. And I don’t regret the no’s either—because every no is a yes to something else.

So, what are you saying yes to? What’s the hardest yes you’re making this week?

This weekend, I’m speaking to a group of 8-13-year-old girls about this very thing. Did I say yes when asked? Absolutely! Was I ready? Not in the word-to-paper sense, but in the try-and-try-again sense? 100%.

It starts somewhere. Where does it start with you?
